RE: Many replies all in one here....

Whenever I do this "many replies all in one", I go in the order that I copy them and then answer, but this time it will be a bit broken up, at least on the Ronnie comments....

This comment was made in regard to losing BJ and MT:

I almost wish, as ridiculous as it sounds, that something like that could happen again with the Rolling Stones, that someone else could conjoin with them to make more beautiful music

It ins't ridiculous at all, but, the solution is simple, all they got to do is bring back Mick Taylor, but this time for real! Use him 100%, on all songs played live, and put out a damn studio album with MT as the lead guitarist, and while they do that, invite Bill to play bass on it. That is all this band needs today! With a 3 guitarist lineup, they would sound outstanding(!), even if it was only on record, as Bill will not play live with them again, unless they played in the UK, and actually let him (also) really play with them on more than just 2 songs! Bill (and all the fans) is still pissed at Mick J for what he did to him on that one nite when he did rejoin them on stage.

It's just my opinin of course, but Ronnie just doesn't do it for me. He is too much Mick and Keith's puppet where as Brian and Mick T weren't...and I respected the HELL out of that.

And that's Mick's fault, 100%.

I don't think the Ronnie era is as great and that has more to do with the fact that the Glimmers ruled with an iron fist

That's where the problem is, not in Ron, but in MJ not allowing him to expand. The man would do better if they would just let him. The last Stones show I saw, Ronnie saved the show, as something was wrong with Keith that night (from what I've been told, this was the case on many other nites on that tour) and Ron played lead on every song but the last one, which Keith did shine on. Ron can do it if they would only let him do it. I recall Bill saying after Ronnie joined the band, that he was just like Brian in getting the others to play different instruments in the studio, he had a spark to him. But that spark was watered down by Jagger and it needs to be ignited again.

put me down as one of those Gassers who don't agree that Brian shined more on Satisfaction than Keith.

First, only one Gasser commented about that, all the rest of the emails I got were from your average Stones fans. Second, and most important, I never stated that Brian out shinned Keith on that song, read what I wrote again.

The guy wrote and played the most recognisable opening riff in the history of Rock and Roll. While Brian's rhythym guitar IS excellent in that song, it is, IMO, not enough to say that he out shined Keith there.

Again, I didn't state that! But I look at that song in this way.... If I really feel that Brian played the best rhythm guitar ever in the history of any Stones song on that one song (and he did), how else do I make the claim? They were even on that one song, even if Keith played the best riff in his life, well BJ played his best rhythm guitar on the same song, so yes, they were even. Really, come to think of it, it was Keith's best riff to date, but I would say that he surpassed himself after that, and on more than one song, too. But Brian's playing rhythm guitar on there, well he never again played rhythm guitar any better again, nor has anybody else on any other Stones song. So it was a tie and they were even on that one!

But the reality is without Mick Jagger, there would never have even been an Exile or that great era.

Yes, but no. He needed a band - a great band to back him. Look at his solo stuff, it was lacking because he didn't have Brian, Keith, MT, and the others playing behind him.

Jagger always was and is, not only the most famous Stone, but arguably the most famous frontman in rock history.

Yet not the most loved in the Stones, and that has been made clear for years now by their fans. Being the most famous helps to sell tickets to many extra, non hard-nosed fans, yes, but that's it. If you want to say, that since Brian died, that Mick and Keith have been the main draw to the Stones, then yes, they have been, other than on this last tour, as bringing back MT was just as much a draw. Too bad they sold everybody a false product, since MT was hardly used at all.

No Mick Jagger, no Stones.

The truth is, that is only true for the last 35 years or so, which have't been that great - just very good, for the band, music wise. Before that, when they were great, the statement is false. Plus there would be no Stones for MJ to lead for the last 35 years if the first 15 or so years never happened.

There never would have been any Stones without Brian Jones starting them and pushing them along before they were famous, then his adding in all those special instruments to their hit songs (instruments which were never used in rock songs before), this was why those songs stood out and were hits.... the songs even stood out to the Beatles' songs, and was why the Stones were so special and loved. Then MT showed up and more of the same took place - many great songs thanks to him! Not to mention that Keith was always in the mix too, and just as important as Jagger was, up to his H problem got in the way in the early '70s anyway. So with that said.... No Mick Jagger, along with no Brian Jones, no Keith Richards, and no Mick Taylor, then no Stones.
