RE: RE: RIP Allen Collins and others (NSC)

Well yes, but there's also the abrupt end of his lifelong friendship with Rossington

Really, I knew nothing about that, when and why did it happen? I was under the impression that after his car accident, he still showed up for all of the shows, in his wheelchair, and introduced the band each night, until he got sick and passed away.

And there's another thing which, as I told you, isn't public knowledge and that was devastating to him. I can't say what it is because I promised I would keep it to myself.

Don't you just hate that! My friend Scott, who was at our first Gasland get together in Denver (his photo was on our photo page) was a friend of the band, I should ask him.

An interesting note I was thinking about the other day, after you posted about Leon Wilkeson dying of drugs, was that he did quit using for at least a while. The first time the Rossington-Collins Band played Colorado, Scott and his then girlfriend Monica hung out with them for a couple of days and Leon had the hots for Scott's girl, and he asked Scott if he would mind if Monica spent the night with him. But anyway, they all partied hardy in those 2 days. Yet the next time the band came to town, I can't remember if it was the next year, or 2 years later, but by then, they all had become born again Christians, including Leon, and all of them had stopped totally doing drugs, including even weed. Guess he gave the drugs up for just a short time and starting using again, if that's what killed him.

I gotta say that I didn't know that about Roy Orbison, and I didn't know about Neil Peart's tragedy either. So very sad!

Yeah, very sad stories. With Orbison, he had written the song "Pretty Woman" about his wife, the song was a true story about the way the 2 met, she was just walking down the street one day and he saw her for the first time and then tracked her down. I think they were only married for something like 5 years when they were out riding their 2 bikes together and the truck ran into her, and she died in his arms. Then the fire that killed their 2 boys was a year or two after that, he was out working when the home burned to the ground and the children were killed. Roy almost didn't recover after those 2 events, it took his friends to help save him after that, including a friend who would become his second wife.

With Neil Pert, his teenage daughter was killed in a car accident, then shortly after that his wife (and the daughter's mother) died of cancer. That happened in 1998 if I recall correctly, give or take a year. I do recall my friend Phil, the dude who used to be the Stones photographer, and Rush's too at one point, phoned me about this after his wife died, before the news media knew about it, as he was close friends with Neil.
