RE: RE: One reply, a spammer, and my picks

First a reply to Sway's comment: I would love that list of Stones songs that have never been played to be an ACTUAL SET LIST for one of their shows. lol. Almost all of them are great songs!!

Funny, I was thinking the very same exact thing when I built the poll Saturday morning. That would be so damn cool if the did that, but of course, it will never happen.

Now before I show my picks, a note about something that had never happened in the 16 years of the weekly Stones poll, which happened last night. In the very first hour, some moronic spammer hit the Stones poll and spammed a bunch of votes for "Soul Survivor", "2000 Man", and "Memo From Turner". Never once had a spammer appeared in the first hour of any weekly poll before, so I guess it was just the laws of averages catching up in this case. I only noticed it last night because where I usually cast my own votes in the first few minutes that the polls are up and running, last night with me doing several other things, I didn't get to vote until about 3 hours after the poll started, and as soon as I did, I could see there were way too many votes in the Stones poll for just after 1am Gasland time, and especially for the songs "Soul Survivor" and "Memo From Turner". Heck, even as of now both songs don't have as many votes as they had at 1am, and sure enough when I checked the logs, a lone spammer using a bloody iPhone, had done the damage, all in the very first hour!... then left, and as of now hasn't tried to vote again (yes, the jerk was banned). But since this person did this using an iPhone, and could easily get a different IP to vote with, I felt I needed to raise the spammer control in the admin of our polls from 'low' to 'medium', just in case this asshole tries to fuck with the poll again. This person was using Time Warner as their ISP, so if you are with the same ISP, or another ISP that users a similar IP block, your vote could be temporary quarantined from counting. But have no fear, as long as you aren't spamming, I will see it isn't a spam vote and release the vote after I check the poll logs. I rarely use the spam filter higher than its low setting since about 20% of the votes will be placed on hold until I release them, when using the "medium" setting, and half of the votes would be placed on hold if I went with the "high" setting, but I don't feel that's needed. But I did want to make everybody aware of this just in case you vote for a song and its still showing no votes after you voted. Your vote will count after I take a look at the logs. I actually do this once a night around midnight with the reading on it's normal low setting, but since it is now setting on medium, I'll check it more often today when I can, and hopefully by tomorrow lower the setting to where it's normally at. But this will save me cleanup work just in case this jerk returns with a new IP number.

Okay, here are my picks:

Stones Poll: "2000 Man"! It was that or "Jigsaw Puzzle", or Keith's "Coming Down Again". I also would love to hear Mick sing "Downtown Suzie", too, but I didn't list it since there is no way they would play Bill's wonderful song with him not there, heck, they never played it when he was!

Rock Poll: Christie McVie. I was thinking several months after she rejoined the band, that there was no question that she clearly was the most underrated member of FM and the reason why I decided this question would make for a great series of questions for many different rock bands. Yet in the first set of questions run last last year, I forgot to run the question for FM! But Christine has written more songs for them than anybody else, and I believe she has sang lead on more songs than any of the others too, and other than John and Mick, she's been on every album other then the first one, and the only true keyboard player they ever had. Yet when fans today think of this band, they seem to think of Buckingham and Nicks before her.

I also wanted to note that Bob Welch would be a close second pick for me, I mean, he helped keep the band going in their middle period when they were changing, and wrote some excellent songs for them. Yet when the band made it into the Rock Hall, the stupid Rock Hall didn't include him with the band as an inductee! I mean no Bob Welch, and the Buckingham/Nicks era never would have happened, since the band would have broken up a few years before they came on board to replace him. The rest of the band members who did make it into the Hall, should have spoken up for him at that time! He was very upset that he wasn't included, and went to his grave feeling that way. I also couldn't help to notice, that all 3 former members of FM named "Bob", have all passed away, and all within a year of each other.

VS Poll: Bowie's 'Rebel Rebel'. I like both songs, including the music to both, but that Stones sounding guitar puts Bowie's song on top for me. I must say that I'm surprised it's trailing by such a big margin right now, I didn't expect that at all!

Beatles Poll: I went with Lennon's twisted Semolina Pilchard lyric, but damn, I could have voted for every lyric listed!
