Last week/MT/Doors/Hookers/Fabs

I don’t ever open up this poll thread by talking about last week first, but this week I will. You see, at our polls last week, we saw the busiest week of the year, and perhaps the busiest week ever, for the weekly polls anyway, although with the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies coming up soon, the On-Going poll that covers the Rock Hall saw a bigger than usual amount of votes cast last week too. Plus to answer an email asking me why the new inductees aren’t listed yet. Well, they aren’t in officially yet, not until that induction week in April gets here, so that’s when they will be listed.

Anyway, all 4 of our weekly polls saw near record voting numbers last week, except the Rock poll, which broke the all-time record for votes cast in a week, and finally, after a few close calls in the past, broke the 700 mark in votes cast for the first time by any weekly poll. Now I know if we were to look at – say, Google poll numbers, or something like the numbers that NFL.com weekly poll sees, this isn’t really a big deal, right? Wrong… keno.org isn’t anywhere as busy as those 2 giants are, but for this domain, and to me and a lot of our regular voters anyway, this is cool news! The Stones Weekly Poll also did well in the voting last week, seeing its second highest vote total for that poll, and the VS poll broke the 500 mark for only the second time ever last week! Then the Beatles poll also was way past the 500 mark, although that poll’s record is for over 600 votes, but last week was a great week there too.

So what about this week? For the Stones poll we enter week 815, and this week’s poll question is by suggestion, and asks: Pick the one song you don't want to hear the Stones play again on the new tour: . We have asked this question 3 times in the past, in 2002, in ’05, and the last time in ‘07. Songs played a bunch of times on the last tour are listed along with a few others played often by the band, with 29 choices total. 28 of those are Jagger sung songs, and the last choice reads: “Any song that Keith sings lead on”. I wanted to point this one out, in case anybody thinks I’m being rude to Keith here. I’m not, but the past 3 polls run asking this question, besides 3 songs that Jagger sings that always get a lot of votes whenever we vote on this, all of the songs Keith sings gets the most votes, all you got to do is check out the final results from these polls to see this. But Keith only sings 2 songs per show, but not always the same ones, and I have to end up listing a good 12 songs of his, which makes the list too long. So by just having this one listing, it takes care of all of his songs and makes certain that Keith will not have 6 of his songs in the top 10 listed that fans don’t want to hear, this time around in the poll’s final results.

So which song do you hope they skip this time around? To see the song list and then vote, just click on here: Stones Weekly Poll

In last week’s very busy Stones poll we asked: When the Stones new US tour starts up, which would you prefer to see in regard to Mick Taylor? . With the second highest vote total ever for this long running weekly poll, guess you can say this was a popular question. Yet of the four choices, only two of them saw any real votes, with the 2 pro Taylor options raking in 98.7% of all the votes! The choice that Mick Jagger made on the last tour, with MT playing on only 2 non Taylor era songs, saw 0% of the vote, or in other words, zero votes! That’s really says something big to Mick Jagger, I would think? Well that, and the fact the other choice that we’re told he’s going with for the upcoming tour, that being no MT at all, only saw 8 votes (or 1.4% of the vote). Mick and company should really look good at these poll totals, since they were made by real Stones fans who have real money and are deciding if they should spend it on the new tour. In the past, most of us didn’t do that, we just went to the shows regardless, but that was then and this is now, and we’re all getting older now and don’t just jump into some things like we used to. But I tell ya, from this fan’s POV, about the only way I’ll pay to see the Stones this time around, would be 1) They have to play either in Colorado or northern New Mexico, and 2) ONLY if Taylor was to be playing with them, but not on only 2 non Taylor songs, either, it’s got to be the real deal this time. That is very much what all the fans are saying going by not only this board, but by this poll, which a lot of non-Gasser Stones fans vote in.

Now let’s move on over to the Classic Rock Poll, where it’s week 457, and as usual, we will vote in 2 different polls for the week. In the first poll, it’s time for a new question, a series on this one question applied to different rock bands, and a question that we haven’t asked since last October. That question is worded in this way for this week: Who was the most underrated member of The Doors?

Yes, this week we look at : The Doors . They were formed in 1965 and led by the late and crazed Jim Morrison. Click on the provided link above to read up on the band if you like, and then you can decide who of the 4 Doors was most underrated.

To make your pick, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

In this week’s VS poll the new question asks: 'Roxanne' (by the Police) vs 'Hey Hey What Can I Do' (by Led Zeppelin), which song about being in love with a hooker, is better? Yes, 2 different songs about the very same thing.

Led Zep’s 'Hey Hey What Can I Do' was credited to the entire band and released in 1970 as a B side single to "Immigrant Song", but only outside of the UK. It was the only Led Zep song to not appear on one of their albums until long after they broke up, making it a very rare cut, yet it was well loved by fans. John Paul Jones besides playing the bass and acoustic guitar, also played the mandolin for the song, which on the single could only be heard at the very end of the song, then years later, when the song appeared on its first greatest hits album, the song was re-programed so the mandolin can now be heard throughout the entire song, which does improved the song's sound very much indeed.

‘Roxanne’ was written by The Police's lead singer Sting and was released in April 1978 as their debut single from their debut album Outlandos d'Amour, but it didn't do well at first. But then it was rereleased in '79 and went to number 12 on the UK singles charts, and although not a big hit in America (#32), most of us remember this song as the first song we ever heard by this new band. The song was written after Sting spent the nite in a hotel room in Paris looking out at all the prostitutes on the street below.

So 2 great songs about hookers to chose from. To cast your vote in this week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: What's the best acoustic guitar(s) heard in a Rock song? (Part 7 of 7) The longest run multi week poll for the domain was a major success and hit, as far as bringing out the vote went, with, as noted above, our highest vote total ever for any of our weekly polls! But no matter how nice that news is, the question needs an answer after almost 2 months of voting on this question, so who was chosen for playing the best acoustic guitar in a rock song? Let me tell ya, even with a lot of votes cast, the final votes were still super close, with 13 picks making the top 10, thanks to ties. The top 3 picks were: ‘No Expectations’ - Stones - Acoustic Slide by Brian Jones, Acoustic Rhythm by Keith Richards (5.8%) for first place. ‘Over the Hills and Far Away’ - Led Zep - Acoustic Guitar by Jimmy Page, placed with 5.5% of the vote. Third place was a tie between ‘Here Comes The Sun’ - The Beatles - Acoustic Guitar by George Harrison (5.4%), and ‘Wish You Were Here’ - Pink Floyd - 6 and 12-string Acoustic Guitars by David Gilmour (5.4%). All the choices made by fans for this question were excellent picks! To see the full, final results from this poll, click on: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 456. Plus the top 10 list for this poll can be found at our Top Ten List (Page 11).

In last week’s VS poll, we asked: 'The Sound of Silence' by Simon and Garfunkel: Original acoustic guitar version from 1964 vs Second, electric hit single version from 1965, which version is better? Even the VS Polls went crazy last week and saw lots of votes cast. With well over 500 votes in, only 3 votes separated the 2 versions of this great song. Which one came out on top? Just click on: Classic Rock VS Poll week 456, to see. You can also check out the final results at the VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

The Beatles’ poll enters week 210 and it also enters week 4 of a 5 week poll question that asks: What's your favorite lyrics from a Beatles song? (Part 4 of 5) . The final week to pick the top lyrics that will go up against each other in Part 5 next week.

Now I’ve been noting each week about the problem with listing an entire lyric in the choice field since our polls do have a character limit and the admin allows me to list only so much per field. So just as the case was in the last 3 weeks when we asked this question, to fit all of the lyrics in the poll, I had to run words together, but that doesn’t cause any real problem since most voting know the lyrics. However, and this is yet another repeat from last week’s post…. I do understand that many who vote, still have browsers that make it hard to read the choices. If you should have a problem reading the choices, then just visit the poll’s archive page, where the choices will display fine, since a pull down menu isn’t used there. Only problem with this is you will see the poll’s results before you vote. So if you do have this problem, you can go here first to read the choices, and then after that you can return to the voting page, and cast your vote.

Okay, now for most who don’t have a problem in viewing the choices, to vote in this week’s Beatles poll without having to use the above link, just use this simple, normal link to vote: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll we asked: What's your favorite lyrics from a Beatles song? (Part 3 of 5)

Again, it was very busy at this poll last week too. 10 lyrics from the songs listed in Part 3 will move on to Part 5. Since there’s too much text to list here, just go to Beatle’s Weekly Poll – week 209 to see which lyrics they are. The top pick was: “All these places have their moments with lovers and friends I still can recall, some are dead and some are living,in my life I've loved them all”, with 7.9% of the vote.

Well spring got underway this week, with a lot of snow back in the eastern US states, but here in Colorado it was 60 degrees F and sunny where I live (but 10 to 15 degrees warmer in Denver and all points over the mountains east of here), as almost all of March has been warm in Colorado, with our snowpack getting low. I hope where you live that things are as you like them and that you all have a great week. It’s spring break this week here, so my grandson is out of school, which means no break for me or any of the other parents around here, perhaps the same deal is happening in your town this week? Oh well, so goes life, and in closing, I wish to send out a big “Thank You!!” to all who took part and voted in last week’s record polls! Let’s keep the high voting count going by voting again in this week’s polls!
