RE: LIV, and others?

>but it is not the best of the BEST, for that song.<

I agree 100%. In fact I think the L&G... version of LIV is the least interesting one I've ever heard. Sluggish compared to all the other versions I have come across on boots. All others I have heard are closer to the pace of the Philly version and have a far more dramatic and lively appeal. The L&G version is dead by comparison imo. I have a feeling the L&G version is the only one that tour which was performed at that snails pace. Certainly that pace was a rarity. Yet it is obvious to me and you, JF, the quicker pace produces the better version of the song. Did the Stones not know this?!

> Which has got me thinking: What are the best of the BEST singular performances of all the songs the Stones played regularly from about '69 to '73 or so? <

I have asked myself the same question many times over the years and I'm glad you brought it up. ( Can you imagine possessing a compilation of the best versions of all the songs played during that period?! What a treasure that would be!) That is where the Stones releasing what is in the vaults would be of great help. For I have listened to poorly recorded bootlegs of shows during that period in which you could make out that the band was on fire that night yet the recording did the performance no justice. If, and that is a big "if", the Stones have soundboard recordings of such shows well it is time to release those shows now. What could they be waiting for? But maybe the Stones did not record many of those shows.

I love your idea of voting on the best live versions of individual songs of that era! I cannot gauge how many of our Gasland brothers and sisters have Stones bootlegs enough to cast a truly informed vote on the topic. Still I would be "all in" on such a project. I think it would be great fun with beneficial results for everybody here and potentially Stones Nation as a whole.

Thanks for the kind words, and I appreciate your thought provoking reply on this topic.
