Hey, not to be a downer (wink*, wink*) but, as per my handle, I just thought I'd mention the fact that new lovers can sometimes turn into manipulative hateful geysers of mournful sadness and bitterness. (In other words, be careful what March might have in store for you..:)
But, to get to better things, I have to acknowledge the fact that TM has a pretty great ear (and not just for the Stones). LIV from Philly '72 is in fact the greatest of all LIV's. Not to take anything away from Ladies and Gents, because that is a great collection overall, but it is not the best of the BEST, for that song. Which has got me thinking: What are the best of the BEST singular performances of all the songs the Stones played regularly from about '69 to '73 or so?
It seems to me that it is fairly well known that this was their live peak, but have we, as gassers, ever isolated which exact performances we think are the pinnacle of their live greatness, on a song-by-song basis, according to those years? If not, we should. I'd guess that individual performances from Brussels and Philly would make the list, but I'm curious if Leeds '71, Australia '73, and even Ya-Yas might even make the list?
