I agree with DA in that Wyman's book should be the go to book for anyone who wants to be introduced to the Stones. He is a trustworthy insider, the historian of the band up until the time he left in the early 90's. With a clearer mind than Keith, I would totally trust and believe anything he wrote.
As someone who is not an avid reader, I DO own and have read dozens of Stones books. I have a book cabinet full of them. My personal favorite is Up And Down With The RS by Sanchez. He makes you feel like you are standing there with him and Mick and Brian and Keith. I love that he uses dialogue and I felt like I was watching the discussions going on between the boys. That is the ONE book that I COULD NOT put down. While Wyman's, IMO, is the best book to gleen information from, Sanchez' was the one I enjoyed the most.
To round out MY top 5, I would say 5) Symphony For The Devil. 4) Old Gods Almost Dead. 3) The True Adventures Of The Rolling Stones. 2) Wyman's book. 1) Sanchez' book
The only fault, for lack of a better word, with Sanchez' book is that he doesn't say much about Charlie and Bill. Perhaps because he was Keith's henchman. Or because the other 3 seemed to attract the most attention. Whatever the reason, it's still my favorite book
