GNR & REM & Coll Soul & OLP

"Guns N Roses really seems to me like people of a certain age a little younger than me think they're really great and original, but I don't hear that. Sounds mostly like nothing new, like The Black Crowes."

I don't agree with this - I found GNR were very different from other bands. Slash imo is a great guitarist and it was always his little different riffs & sounds that got me into their music. It was Axl who fucked things up for the band because of his antics and they only had about 3 albums in at the time I think. It's too bad they didn't have Myles Kennedy in the band first (or right after Axl) cause I think he is just as good and who knows where they would be now.

I got into REM not by choice lol. I was in the army reserves and my friends would pick me up on our way to work every morning with this cassette on. Well it was just enough to get to liking the band - I don't even know which album it was but it was their big one - with Shiny Happy People on it and Losing My Religion. I never bought any of their records but have always liked their music when I hear it.

Collective Soul. Wheels, my brother was so in love with these guys. When I would go visit him or him over to my place, he would play them over and over. He loves drumming and would always have CS on and drum to their songs. I didn't mind them but would focus my time on sneaking to the stereo and putting on the stones and never paid attention to them. Now, I find myself in love with them and realize how magical some of their songs are. Not bad for a couple of preacher's sons.

And Manny - so glad to hear you like Our Lady Peace. I was going to see them in concert so I decided to make a cd of their best songs to listen before we went (I hadn't paid attention to them in the 90's). I was blown away because I got about 20 songs on one cd. "Thief" was written about a young girl who lived in Kitchener, Ontario who had cancer and died to it eventually. When I played the song and realized what the lyrics were about, it brought tears to my eyes.
