NS/Falsetto, Pt3/God and Rock n Roll/Fab lyrics

It’s time to start up week 806 of the Stones poll and this week’s new question asks: Rate the artwork for the front cover of NoSecurity

This live album’s cover had Stones fans scratching their heads when it was first released in 1998 and asking questions like “What’s the deal with the hippie/punk looking couple on the cover and who are they? Mick Jagger was quick to explain that the cover was a tribute to all Stones fans, and that’s why 2 of them were placed on the cover, and that he picked out a couple who looked a lot like your average Stones fans who he would see attending the band’s shows. Turns out the couple shown weren’t hippies or punks at all, the man (shown with his wife) was both a Stones fan and medical doctor from Down Under.

To rate this album cover, just click on here: Stones Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Stones poll we asked: Rate the artwork for the front cover of Got Live If You Want It . Just a bit better than average ratings were given for this live LP, with “8” being the top pick with 31.1% of the vote.

To view the full, final results from this poll, just click on this link: Stones Weekly Poll - week 805 . Plus you can also check out where this album now stands in the Ratings for the Stones Album Covers standings at the Stones Fans Picks Page 2.

Over at the Classic Rock Poll it’s week 448, and we’ll again run the usual 2 polls per week. For the first question we’ll ask: What is the best falsetto sung in a rock song? (Part 3 of 4) Part 3 has another 32 excellent songs listed that contain some excellent falsetto singing in them.

The very same conditions to make the list apply to this week’s songs, and again, it really isn’t going to be easy picking just one falsetto singer out of this bunch of great sung songs.

To vote in this week’s first Rock poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

In this week’s VS poll the question asks: 'God Gave Rock And Roll To You' (original by Argent) vs 'God Gave Rock And Roll To You II' (cover by KISS), which version of this song is best?'? This song, written by Argent's lead singer Russ Ballard, and recorded in 1971, didn't appear on any of their albums until late 1973, when it became a hit single. Ballard wrote the song in response to some Christian’s who made a claim that God hated rock music and would punish those who listened to it.

KISS’s cover version was recorded in 1991, with the “II” added to the title after they added in some new lyrics to the song for the movie Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey and then in the next year it was released on their studio album Revenge. Their cover reached number 21 on the charts and included a 40-second guitar solo played by Steve Vai - but only heard in the movie version, not on the single or on the Kiss album, which had a different opening to it. Other than that, the 2 versions of this song sound very much the same, as did the cover made around 1980 by Christian rock band Petra. I had never heard that version of this song before I visited TouTube this week to check it out, and had a good laugh after hearing it and then reading the comments from Petra fans there who claim KISS’s version sucks. Yet Petra’s take sounds exactly the same as KISS’s version, perhaps a bit weaker…. some people just make no sense and I guess need to have the wax in their ears cleaned out! But since Petra’s cover was never a hit, it doesn’t really matter how their version sounds, only compare KISS’s cover and the original by Argent.

I’ll note that I got the idea for this poll a week ago when late at nite, I found an old KISS concert on satellite TV, and they were playing this song. I’m not a KISS fan, but this song, along with maybe one or two others of theirs, I do like, and I had forgotten that they covered it since I hadn’t heard their take in several years. But that’s where I got the idea to run this question…. So anyway, which version of this song do you like more? To cast your vote in this week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: What is the best falsetto sung in a rock song? (Part 2 of 4) 8 songs scored enough votes to live on to Part 4. Those picks are: Carl Wilson on the Beach Boys ''Good Vibrations' (10.8%); Bobby Hatfield on the Righteous Brothers' 'Unchained Melody' (10%); Brian Wilson on the Beach Boys' 'Don't Worry Baby' (9.8%), Lou Christie on his solo song 'Lightning Strikes Again' (9.8%), Mick Jagger on The Stones' 'Emotional Rescue' (9.8%); Freddie Mercury on Queen and David Bowie's 'Under Pressure' (8.7%), Jay Siegel, Mitch Margo on the Tokens 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' (8.7%) and John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison on The Beatles' 'Because' (8.7%)

To see the full, final resutles, click on: Classic Rock VS Poll week 447.

Last week in our VS poll we asked: “Train Kept a Rollin'' (by The Yardbirds) vs “Train Kept a Rollin'' (by Aerosmith), which cover of this song is best? To see which cover came out on top, click on: Classic Rock VS Poll week 447. You can also check out the final results at the new VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

Finally to the Beatles’ poll, where it’s week 201, and the new question is: Of the Beatles UK studio albums, which one has the best lyrics? This will start off a new series of Beatle questions asking about their song lyrics, although this one will be the only question to look at those songs as a group on each album.

The Beatles were known for writing very interesting lyrics, but which LP had the best overall lyrics? To make you pick and vote in this poll, just click on: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll we asked: Which Beatles song is too long? Only 2 songs turned out to be in the running for first place, “Revolution 9” (at 8:22) and “What's the New Mary Jane” (at 6:12), and only 2 votes separated them in the end.

To see the full results from this poll and which song came out on top, click on: Beatle’s Weekly Poll – week 200. The top picks will also show up on The Beatles Miscellaneous Listings Page over at the Lennon site.

I hope all of my fellow American Gassers who have off from work tomorrow for the MLK holiday will enjoy themselves, and I thank all of you who take part in the voting each week in our polls!
