I didn't say that Fox was a terrible coach, but when it came to the way he used a great QB, he was terrible indeed. Plus he has no clue how to use his head correctly when his thinking is needed the most, like whenever his team has the ball.
I half said this already, but here is an example of his not using his head. It is a known fact that Manning doesn't play as well when the temp is below 40 degrees F and snow is falling. We also know that Fox hates to have the ball on O first and never gives Manning the ball when they win the the coin toss (very stupid indeed!). Before the game Sunday, the forecast was calling for temps around 40 degrees at game time with dry conditions on the field, but with falling temps into the 20s by the second half with snow falling. So at the least, with such a forecast and a QB who has problems playing in such weather... and it's not snowing or cold at game time, well, if you win the toss this time, change your damn plan and give your QB the ball when conditions are dry and not as cold, as he's gonna play at his best in the first half if the forecast holds up. So they win the coin toss and Fox, knowing the forecast and his QB, goes and gives the ball to the Colts anyway. A totally wrong and stupid decision! Now true, it never did snow, and Manning wasn't himself all game, but I think that shows how Fox doesn't use his head and only thinks in the way a defensive coach thinks, and that kind of thinking doomed the Broncos for 3 years in a row.
