Does anyone know why they wanted to can Bill?

Money! That was very early on, even before Charlie was in the band. They were thinking they already had enough members in the group, didn't want to have to split up their pay anymore than they had to, and Brian was gonna take over playing bass. But it wasn't something they thought about for a long time, only after Bill first joined up with them. They learned real fast that he was very good at what he did and worth keeping.
