You are correct,NB, and make great. valid points. Those decisions that he may or may not have made as a manager certainly support your reason for him not getting in the HOF..... as a MANAGER. IMO, he should be inducted as the great player that he was. The mistakes he made were AFTER his playing days were over.
Certain players, Joe Torre comes to mind. never made it to the HOF as players, but after a successful managerial career, were elected as manager to the HOF. Rose should NOT be recognized as a HOF manager, but certainly a player.
Rose has paid for his mistakes. We let killers out of jail in less time than Rose has been punished. All these steroid users. who clearly cheated and compromised the integrity of the game. are STILL on the ballots for consideration for election into the HOF!! Why? They should face the same fate as Rose...banishment with no chance of HOF election! What's fair for one should be fair for all! Cheating is cheating!
