Mixed feelings about New Year's Eve

I can't say I love it, or even like it all that much.

Here's what I used to like.... Dick Clark... yes, Dick Clark! I liked his New Year's Rockin' Eve. When you look at it, there was really nothing too special about it. But I guess I grew up watching it, and liked the fact the fact that it was from New York and would feature some cool entertainment acts. But there's nothing special about any of those things either. What I really liked was Dick Clark's actual counting down of the final minute or so of the year. He would go out of his way to make mention of the year's events -- the economy, political and social events such as hostage taking, presidents elected, wars, assassinations, etc, etc. He'd mention all these things as the year closed. But I checked out Mr Seacrest in the final minute of the year (on a show still called "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" and there's NONE of this! Does Seacrest not watch the news or something?? He just kind of babbles about how excited everyone is. There is just nothing special to it.

In y early adulthood I would occasionally go out to bars for those sorts of insipid events with an inflated ticket price, lousy entertainment, and mediocre food.

Later on my wife and i did host NYE parties, which were quite fun because many close friends attended.

Nowadays, we're just tired after Christmas and are happy beyond words to lie on the sofa with our feet up, a warm fire, and maybe a few drinks.
