Cheap Trick's best song probably came out after that live album with Surrender, but their best albums are the first two. The self titled and In Color and In Black and White (it just says In Color on front but I like that the back says "And In Black and White"). The first one is kind of a Punkish/Garage Rock affair, with energy to burn. In Color is a little slicker, but that's where a lot of the Budokan songs come from, and they're better here. There's an EP that came out between them, called Found All the Parts and it's good, too. I think I bought all of them over the last five years or so on vinyl and it was about ten bucks for the lot.
They're probably lumped into the Power Pop category with those records, so if you don't like that stuff you won't like Cheap Trick, but those records are right in my wheelhouse. They got too slick production-wise for me later, but that initial run is really great!
