Torturing P.O.W's is wrong and cowardly. When countries are at war, and it is military vs. military,the prisoners should not be tortured.
With that said, what happened on 9/11 was an abomination. Those cowardly pieces of shit, from several different shit stained countries in the middle east attacked innocent citizens both on the planes, in those buildings and even on the streets. This was not military vs military. Those who supported this action and those who were captured afterward deserved to be tortured as much as those innocent people were, simply to get as much information out of them as possible. This is not a conventional war where we are all safe and our soldiers are out fighting in some foreign country. As I write this, we are all in danger. These sick fucks want to take their fight to America, the UK, or any western civilization. They know they can't defeat our armies, so they kill the citizens with cowardly bombings.
Torture, in this case, is necessary, IMO, because this is not a fair fight and we need to get as much info from anyone who knows anything. Torturing soldiers who are just doing their job is WRONG. Torturing savages who kill innocent people (including their OWN)... I love it.
