Best/worst non-Stones concert

Besides my posting the poll thread each week and also posting replies, perhaps you might have noticed I don't start a lot of new threads here. Thing is, I always been that way, I prefer to let others start a thread and join in after it gets going. But when things slow down here, as they have in the last week, then I feel as the boardmaster maybe I should, and therefore I will here.

So I was thinking, what would you say was the best concert you ever saw besides the Stones? Plus since I always like to hear both sides of any one subject, what was the worst non-Stones concert you ever saw? I've never seen a single Stones concert that wasn't anything short of excellent, but sure have seen some duds with other bands and artists, and the worst show I ever saw was at Red Rocks - with Bob Dylan of all people, around 1986 (if you've been reading this board for about 10 years you already read this from me). I mean his playing and singing flat out sucked and he acted like he had somewhere else to be on that day. Too bad, because Red Rocks is one place that usually brings out the best in most performers, as it's the most beautiful (and most natural) amphitheatre anywhere on the planet. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers both opened the show and also played with Dylan on that day and they were outstanding and half saved the day; the only problem was Dylan himself, and it was the worst show by somebody I paid to see ever, to this very day.

Best show I've seen besides the Stones? This isn't as easy to say since I've seen so many. Paul McCartney and Wings (around '77?) was excellent and one of the best, no question... Faces' very last US show ever played was also right up there.... and then CSNY in '01 was also just as good. Neil Young and Stephen Stills just blew me away that night with the best guitar weaving I've ever seen anybody do live! But the overall best concert I ever saw was Elton John at MSG on Thanksgiving night in 1974! Even if John Lennon hadn't surprised the shit out of all of us there and came out and played, the show still would have been the best non-Stones concert I'd ever seen, he put on one great show that night! But then out of nowhere Lennon shows up and a great concert became even better! The thing about the show was I wasn't suppose to go, I had tickets for his Long Island show only, but at Thanksgiving dinner that day in Queens, my cousin got too drunk and didn't feel up to going by nightfall and gave me his ticket, and I went alone. It was also the only time in my life I went to a concert alone. But damn was my cousin pissed off at himself the next day!
