The Land of Gas (aka Gasland, Gasx3, the GGG Board, It's a Gas, Gas, Gas!, etc) turns sweet 16 this week! So Happy Birthday Gasland!
It seems hard to believe I started this joint 16 long years ago, but back in December of 1998, about 6 weeks after keno.org was started, this joint got going. I started the domain with this board and the Stones website in mind, but had no idea at the time that so many other sites would grow from it. For the first 3 or 4 years, most of the traffic for this domain came from this board, although the Stones site did great on its own, too. Then the Classic Rock site took off, and then my weather site started to bring in a lot of non music fans/visitors to the domain, too.
Today, all of the sites on the domain, other than my old homepage which I don't update or link anything to anymore, are all going strong. The Stones site is the number 3 site on the domain today, with my 2 cam sites growing by leaps and bounds and now at number 2 and threatening big time to overtake Gasland, which still gets the most page views at keno.org to this very day. But the way my Colorado Cam site alone is bringing in new visitors to the domain each day, it's only a matter of time till it passes our board for the number one site, yet still, Gasland has held on to that distinction here for 16 years now!
Gasx3 was the top revenue maker for the domain for over 15 years, up till this past summer, now the 2 cam sites are leaving all of the other sites on this domain in the dust in that department. But regardless, Gasland is still number 1 in my heart, and it involves the most work on my part and no question, takes up the most bandwidth and costs for the domain.
The bottom line is this... without our posters, nobody would read this board, so a big Thank You!! to all who still post here! It amazes me that even with less posts made in the last year, the joint is still being read big time. Everything here in Gasland and at the domain is up, other than new board posts (they are down in the last year) and new visitors to both the Stones site and board. Yet daily visits and hits here at the board and at the old Stones site are still at very high levels and above last year's totals by a large number. Yet not too much in new blood, other than at the other sites on the domain, which are all up in new visitors/views. Guess a lot of this has to do with the Stones not really being looked at as a current band anymore, therefore, not as many new fans are showing up or being made with this younger generation (which wasn't the case just 10 years ago, remember all the kids we used to have here posting?). But as I also like to point out, webboards are the old thing now on the net, and places like Facebook and Twitter have killed off most old boards. So I guess that Gasx3 is still around and still going strong does mean something - it means we are still loved and supported after 16 long years of being around! It's a Gas, Gas, Gas! is the longest running Stones board on the web as it's been around longer than any other current Stones board, and as the webmaster, I am proud of that! It isn't easy running a joint like Gasland, especially for 16 years.
So again, I could not do this without you Gassers, and without you lurkers, so I thank you all for that!
