Both of this week's Stones songs are songs on which Brian totally shines and if this poll was about him, I would have picked PIB in a heartbeat. But since it's about Charlie, I had to go with GOOOMC. His drumming on that song is really exceptional!
I had to go with Bill Haley & the Comets' release of "Rock Around the Clock" in the first rock poll. The Beatles on Ed Sullivan is probably going to win this poll and I could have picked that but c'mon! That is SO US-centric!!! Had it not been Ed Sullivan, it would have been something else. The Beatles were already huge in Britain and that train was simply unstoppable.
"Free Bird" in the second poll. Huge surprise here, I know (LOL). Keno, that song was released in 1973, not 1974 ("Sweet Home Alabama" is from 1974). Allen's only contribution to the lyrics was his then-GF (later wife) Kathy's opening line.
Funny thing about "Stairway to Heaven": Page & Plant find themselves embroiled in yet another legal battle over supposedly stolen material. And it looks like they've lost Round 1:

George was the total opposite of a flashy guitarist, but his playing was always tasteful and fitted the songs really well IMO. I could have voted for several of these songs, but I ended up picking "Dr Roberts", on which he does a superb job.
