Just bringing it over from last month. I don't understand how people interested in music can write off entire decades (or more). I think it just proves something about them I don't want to get in to here on this lovely, grey morning.
Anyway, here's five or so albums I think are pretty much as good as anything anyone has ever done:
The Replacements - Pleased to Meet Me. It's my favorite, but you can put Tim or Let It Be in here and I won't argue.
The Psychedelic Furs - Talk Talk Talk. This is so solid from beginning to end. They barely had it in them, when you look at their other albums, but this one is sublime.
X - Under the Big Black Sun. Not just best of the decade, but as good as anything, ever. Absolutely one of my very favorite albums.
Redd Kross - Neurotica. Weird, power poppy and completely fantastic from beginning to end.
Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me. This established J. Mascis as a true guitar god for a new era. Truly great stuff.
And I'll toss in a Classic Rocker's favorite (even though supposed;y the era was "over"). Stevie Ray Vaughan - Couldn't Stand the Weather. See the music is always there, it's just how much you're willing to go find it.
