4 Thanksgiving Polls

It’s time for week 798 of our Stones poll and with a major US holiday happening this week, we will ask all Thanksgiving related questions at our 4 weekly polls this week. So for the Stones poll, the question is:Which Stone would you like to invite over for Thanksgiving dinner the most? Hard to believe that we never in 15 years asked this before, but I don’t think we ever have asked any questions about this holiday before at any of our polls .

Since this is really nothing more than a fantasy question, and a kind of question I usually never ask here, let’s list all of the Stones including Stu and BJ, even if inviting them would be impossible today.

So which Stone would you like to break bread and eat turkey with? Let us know by voting in this poll: Stones Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Stones poll we asked: Rate the artwork for the front cover of Jump Back (US cover) . Although this Stones cover ended up getting rated the fourth worst cover ever, it did a lot better than what I expected to see it get. A “2” was the top pick with 18.2% of the votes. “3” came in second at 17.7%, and third was “4”, at 15.9%.

You can click on this link: Stones Weekly Poll - week 797 for the full, final poll results. Plus you can also check out where this album now stands in the Ratings for the Stones Album Covers standings at the Stones Fans Picks Page 2.

Okay, now to the Classic Rock Poll, where it’s week 440 and we’ll be running the usual 2 poll questions for the week. With the first question, this question will be asked: What is the best rock song to play for Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving is many people’s (including my own) favorite holiday of the year, yet unlike the Xmas holiday, there are almost no rock songs written about this special day. So instead of asking for the best song written about Thanksgiving and having only 3 or 4 choices to choose from, I’ll ask what I’m going with instead, where most of the songs aren’t about the holiday but do deal with things like turkeys, American Indians, and thanking others in general for whatever they needed to be thanked for.

Usually when I run these polls and have sometimes over a hundred choices to list, I know most of the songs, yet this week with only 17 listed, I didn’t know 9 of them. But I did take the time to listen in to all but one of them at YouTube in the last week, the only song I didn’t get to hear was “My Thanksgiving” by Don Henley, since it’s not up on YouTube, and by looking at its lyrics I can’t be sure if this is a song about the holiday or not.

Anyway, which song do you think is best to play on this day? To make your pick and vote, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

At the VS Rock poll this week we will ask this:' I Thank You' (cover by Sam and Dave) vs 'I Thank You' (cover by ZZ Top), which version is better? This song wasn’t about Thanksgiving, but it is about a very thanking person regardless. Written by David Porter and Isaac Hayes and first covered and recorded by Sam & Dave in 1968, the single reached #9 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart and #4 on the R&B chart.

Then in 1979, ZZ Top covered the song on their album Degüello, but it wasn’t released as a single until a full year later. ZZ Top’s cover charted too, reaching #34 on the Pop singles chart.

So which take of this song do you like more? To cast your vote in this week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: What rock song has the best opening to it? (Part 6 of 6) Well, that was one very interesting 6 weeks of questions and in the end the final standings couldn’t be anymore close. I believe we also saw a record high vote count in Part 6 for any one poll total, just falling short of 700 votes! “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple was the winner with 5.4% of the votes. Second place went to the Stones “Jumpin' Jack Flash” at 5%, and in third place was “I Feel Fine” by The Beatles at 4.9%.

To view the full, final, and very close results from this poll, just click on: Classic Rock Poll week 439. The top 10 from this poll will also be listed on the brand new and just published : Top Ten Lists Page 11.

In last week’s VS poll we asked: ‘Layla' (original by Derek and the Dominos) vs 'Layla' (acoustic by Eric Clapton), which version is better? To find out which take of this Clapton song ended up on top, click on: Classic Rock VS Poll week 439. You can also check out the final results at the new VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

Finally we’ll close out this holiday week’s poll thread with the Beatles’ poll, where it’s week 193, and the question is: Which Beatle would you like to invite over for Thanksgiving dinner the most? . Yep, same question we’re asking at the Stones poll this week, and like over there, we’ll include the Beatles 2 departed members.

Just remember, if you wish to invite Paul over, he won’t be eating any turkey, unless it’s one of those veggie turkeys. To make your pick, just click on: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll we asked: Of the Beatles songs to feature Paul McCartney on lead guitar, which one is best? Unlike when we asked this question about John and only 3 songs got a lot of votes, for Paul there were several songs that fans voted for. “Taxman’ was the top pick with 13.8% of the vote, with “Ticket to Ride” (with George sharing the lead) placed at 13.3%, and third was “Drive My Car”, taking in 12.7%.

To see the full results for this poll, click on: Beatle’s Weekly Poll – week 191. The top results from this poll will also show up on this page: Beatles miscellaneous page .

I thank all of you for taking a part in the voting in the many different polls we have here at keno.org, from these four weekly ones, to our non-stop On-Going Polls!
