I think that's a very important point you make Keno i.e. that these women didn't come forward in the past because of who they were up against. That is precisely what came out here in the investigations into allegations of historic sexual abuse/rape against tv personality Jimmy Saville. People who were victims didn't come forward because they didn't think they would be believed because of who he was, and those who did try back then were in fact dismissed. Turns out Saville was a serial rapist and abuser of young women and children including seriously ill and disabled children, and we are talking hundreds. Also, and again because of who he was, institutions such as the BBC for whom he worked,and the National Health Service for whom he was raising millions through charity work, were turning a blind eye to suspicions and rumour about him that were widespread at the time.
What changed in the Saville case was that he died, and people then did come forward,convenient you might think, but the subsequent police operation established beyond doubt what Saville had been up to unchallenged for years.
What that investigation also did was create a climate where victims of historic abuse did feel that they could come forward, and that they would be listened to. Subsequently there have been many investigations, and 'stars' such as Rolf Harris and Stuart Hall, who clearly thought they could act with impunity because of who they were, are now languishing behind bars.
As I have made mention of here before, I think there is much more to come, which will include the murder of young boys, and the involvement of all sorts of members of the 'Establishment'. This will include Cabinet Ministers from Thatchers Government, prominent Members of Parliament, 'Pop' stars and Royal Aides. All that is needed is for the Government to come up with someone with no connection to the 'Establishment' to chair the enquiry(the two they have appointed so far have had to step down after public outcry for that very reason), and off we go. Watch this space.
I don't know if there is a time bar in the U.S. that would prevent Cosby ever appearing in court to face charges but regardless of that, I would suspect that his silence is on legal advice.
