I think it's pretty well documented on here that I have a tough time with half of the "Classic" artists. I don't necessarily hate them, but if I never hear Led Zeppelin, Boston, Styx, Billy Joel or Journey again, I'm more than okay with that.
Otherwise, I think the biggest issues I have is that too many bands that don't deserve it are still in heavy rotation in Classic Rock circles. Now, I love Grand Funk and BTO. I think they're fantastic, and if I want to hear them, I'll play them. But I find it completely understandable that people turn off We're an American Band or Takin' Care of Business. They're overplayed TO THIS VERY DAY. Really, who the fuck wants to hear an REO Speedwagon song? Or Supertramp? Or any of the B list Classic Rockers. There was a time when you'd hear an oldie, and it would be kind of cool. Like when I was a kid and maybe Shapes of Things by The Yardbirds would come on. That was great, and while I may still play it, I understand why a 20 year old might only want to hear it a few times in their life. It's the same with Foghat. Does anyone really want to hear any of their stuff anymore?
So much good music came out after 1982, and now and then the Classic Rock crowd acts like, "The Ramones? They're fucking GREAT! We play them all the time!" Well, they sure as shit didn't way back when. It bugs me that the Classic Rock canaon, which was really a regional kind of thing has been so co-opted and made to fit into a niche. No one hear ever listened to Head East, and it was the rare oddball that listened to Slade or Bloodrock, but I hear Cum on Feel the Noise and D.O.A. all the time, like these were things the Classic Rockers loved (or The Runaways or Suzi Quatro - they NEVER got any credit and were totally underground back then).
