K, this is a bit deep. When I think of religion, I think it is man-made. I was going to write that I believe in following the 10 commandments but then read them and only believe in a few (go figure - Wikipedia is the bomb!) I do not go to Church and have never studied religion. I believe we all have "God" and the "Devil" within us (but change those words to whatever you believe - I'm using those words because they are the most popular). Maybe a better choice is "good" and "bad". In other words, the "God" in us is when we help an old lady cross the street and the "Devil" is when we cut someone off on the road and yell and scream at them in rage. I don't feel that God & the Devil have to be for serious things but just day to day choices we make. It is our inner knowing of what right and wrong is. The man-made part is what brings hatred and rage over belief systems and people are so upset when others do not believe in what they do, which can cause hatred, fighting and/or war (more so in the middle east). And I don't mean everyone is this extreme. But if everyone stopped and looked at the big picture, most of us want peace and harmony and to get along with no stealing, violence, etc. We wish to be surrounded by love. It is our choices of doing right or wrong and we should all take responsibility for our actions.
I think prayer is one of the most powerful forms of expressing our love and I do think praying could be magical as when praying, you are sending love to others in the world who need it the most (ie, cancer victims and people in car accidents, lost their families etc.)
I have always thought SFTD has brilliant lyrics. I always thought Mick talks about the devil being in the people, like I explained above. I don't think he was aiming at anyone in particular because there are a lot of great people out there. It is interesting reading everyone's threads and I would never make fun of anyone for their beliefs and think everyone should be allowed their freedom to believe in whatever they want, as long as they don't disallow others to not believe in what they do. And it should all come from love.
