RE: not the devil, just 'you and me'

Listening to it, it seems to me that the devil lays out a long list of his works including religious wars, and his part in Jesus's fate, and states, specifically in relation to the death of Kennedy(s), that all of us are complicit.

All of that shit was done by mankind (and Mick even states it in the song more than once), not some devil that to many of us doesn't even exist. Perhaps you have to be a non-believer to realize who the real devil in the song is? Yet I believe the man who wrote the song is a believer (not sure, but I think he is). Anyway, even if you believe in the devil, it was still mankind who committed all of these atrocities noted in the song, as again, Mick states it is (I'll get to that lyric below). Mick is clearly telling a story of our history in this song, and he did address the lyrics once many years ago in an interview.... No, I can't recall where or when I read it, but it was a good 20 plus years ago I'd say.

I do recall several years ago here when a few Gassers got upset with Billy Joel because they felt he stole his idea for his song about history, "We Didn't Start the Fire", from Mick and SFTD. Yet Billy's song is only about the history that took place since the day he was born, whereas Mick's song goes all the way back to when Christ was alive. Yes, both songs lyric wise list all of these historic events, but MJ came up with the idea years before Billy ever did. But the devil in the Stones song is mankind.

I've always thought... that the devil in 'Sympathy for the Devil' was in fact that devil, the Christian devil Lucifer as named in the song.

But he isn't directly named in the song! The lyric is saying that you can call him "Lucifer", but notice the lyrics don't flat out say that's who it is, yet the lyrics do repeat over and over after that line "who who, who who', as in who really is this. Mick in the song sings, As heads is tails, just call me Lucifer , in other words, it don;t matter, flip a coin if you like and see if that answers what my name is.... The lyrics just say that you can call us anything you want. But directly after that line he still asks the question more than once who am I? Tell me, baby, (whoo whoo) what's my name (whoo whoo), and the very next line after that actually answers the question: "I tell you one time, (whoo whoo) you're to blame (whoo whoo)". "You're to blame, as in - you and me i.e. mankind, not that religious devil. So it tells us right there who the devil in the song really is, only thing is he doesn't just tell us this "one time", but more than once: "Who killed the Kennedys?" (whoo whoo), when after all (whoo whoo), it was you and me. I know that I'm not the devil, and I also know most other humans aren't devils either, yet it was "you and me", as in mankind.
