In all likelihood, the nurse did not completely follow protocol, either due to insufficient training or to carelessness. Taking the combination off seems to be the critical moment, where accidental contamination can most "easily" occur. The nurse may have touched her face with a contaminated glove without even thinking about it. We all touch our eyes, nose, lips and ears many times each day without thinking about it.
Epidemics have created panic throughout the history of mankind. Nothing new there. And today's means of instant communication only make it easier, just as it makes the spread of misinformation easier. *IF* the virus mutates to become airborne (fingers crossed that it won't!), then we'll have reason to worry but until then, we should avoid becoming needlessly alarmed.
It's the word "morons" to describe the Africans (all Africans...) that I objected to Manny. The countries where the epidemic took hold are war-torn countries with minimal infrastructure and almost no medical personnel. I think that "advanced" countries such as Canada and the US bear a part of the responsibility. Had they gone in earlier to help, it would have been easier to contain this thing. But they didn't get really interested until the virus appeared outside of Africa.
