The Marvelettes unique and somewhat rough-hewn vocal sound can be attributed largely to Gladys Horton, who was an awesome lead vocalist. And backup from the Motown house band made them sound that much better. It seems like they were always on the charts in the early to mid 60's, and later on for "Don't Mess With Bill". I recall The Beatles, Lennon in particular, citing them as a favorite group. So I personally think they're worthy of inclusion. Whether they should rank ahead of overlooked bands like Deep Purple, Moody Blues, or the Guess Who is another question.
