BnB/SW/Song's opening/Stones VS Beatles/More Fabs

vs.

Week 792 of our Stones poll is here and we’ll continue with week 5 of the black n blue polls asking this week: Black N Blue vs Steel Wheels , which album do you like the best? . Released in 1989, SW got some real nice reviews when it first came out, although it was never that highly rated by most fans. It contained 12 new songs and sadly was Bill Wyman's last Stones album.

So which LP do you dig more? To vote in this week’s Stones’ poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll.

vs.

In last week’s Stones poll we asked: Black N Blue vs The Rolling Stones, Now!, which album do you like the best? Could Black N Blue pull out a win 2 weeks in a row?. To find out, just click on this link: Stones Weekly Poll - week 791– poll results. I’ll also add the results of this poll to the Stones VS Page.

Week 434 at the Classic Rock Poll will be running the usual 2 poll questions for the week. The first question asks: What rock song has the best opening to it? (Part 1 of 6)

Here is a question I’ve been wanting to ask for a long time, but it took forever to get its list together and finalized, as I ended up with 160 songs to list after collecting over 200 at first and then removing somewhere around 50 of them, since once a poll goes on for more than 6 weeks, well, that’s just a bit too long, and most of those 50 some songs weren’t gonna get a lot of votes anyway. I picked up these songs from other web sites – mainly other rock boards that listed the best openings to rock songs, other than the songs used for the Stones and Beatles, as they come from the top picks from when we asked almost the same question in their polls. I say “almost” since when we asked this in the Stones poll, instead of using “best opening”, I went with the wording of “most captivating introduction” which really means the same thing with more fancy wording. I actually like that wording better, but search engines don’t, so I go with something they do like.

But this question is very popular I see from running those web searches and yes, this is a question that has come up here a few times in the past. So there will be 34 songs listed each week for the next 5 weeks, and then in week six, the top songs from the first five weeks will go up against each other.

To see this week’s list and vote in this week’s first rock poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

Our VS Rock poll this week will ask:'Money (That's What I Want)' (cover by The Beatles) vs 'Money (That's What I Want)' (cover by The Rolling Stones), which version is best?. This will be only the third time the Stones and Beatles have gone up against each other in our VS polls and the Stones have 2 wins to the Fabs one, so far. The song “Money” was written by Berry Gordy and Janie Bradford in 1960 and Barrett Strong’s cover became the very first hit record for Gordy's brand new Motown Records. At first I was gonna have Strong’s song go up against the Beatles, but then realized more of our voters would know the Stones version better, even if the Stones didn’t have a hit with the song.

The Beatles’ cover was released on their second LP, With The Beatles, in 1963, with John Lennon on lead vocals. The song wasn’t known in the UK before the Beatles recorded it, as Strong’s cover was only a US hit and didn’t chart in the UK. The Stones then covered it in 1964 and placed it on their first UK self-titled EP. It would not show up on a US album until More Hot Rock was released in 1972.

So which cover of this song will you go with? To cast your vote in this week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: Who was the most underrated member of The Kinks? I had a feeling with this band, that more members would be in play in the voting than what we had seen so far when asking this question with other bands - and I was correct, as four of the Kinks received a good number of votes. In the end, we picked a band’s lead guitarist for the very first time as its most underrated member, as Dave Davies got the nod with 25.9% of the votes, in some very close voting.

To view the full, final results from this poll, just click on: Classic Rock Poll week 433. For now the top results from this poll will be listed at the Top Ten Lists, Page, 9 page, but as noted in the last few weeks, that page is getting too long and hopefully this week I’ll get a new list page (11) built to show these results (and more).

In last week’s VS poll we asked this question : 'Rock n Roll Music' (original by Chuck Berry) vs 'Rock n Roll Music' (cover by The Beatles), which version is best? The first week of looking at some of the Beatle cover songs. Click on the following link to find out if Chuck or the Fabs ended up on top: Classic Rock VS Poll week 433. You can also check out the final results at the brand new VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

Now let’s head to the Beatles’ poll, where it’s week 187, and week 2 of asking for the least liked song per Beatle LP, so this week’s question is: What is your least favorite song on the Beatles LP With The Beatles .

The Beatles second album, it was released in the UK on November 22, 1963, they very same day that JFK was shot and killed in Dallas, Texas. The LP contained 14 songs, 8 of them covers. Although the 7 originals were very good, perhaps this is the only Beatle album where the covers were better songs and bigger hits for the band (although when we voted for the LPs favorite song, “All My Loving”, was picked). But which one out of the entire bunch was the weakest or the one you liked the least?

To vote in this week’s Beatles poll, just click on: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll we asked: What is your least favorite song on the Beatles LP Please Please Me

Of the 4 polls run last week, this one got the least number of total votes, looks like it was the lowest voter turnout for a Fab poll this year, too. As I noted last week, Beatle fans just don’t like answering this kind of question. But it isn’t like the vote count was that super low either, and we will press on and vote on all of their studio LPs for least favorite song regardless, just hope more Beatle fans figure out it’s okay to vote in such a poll, as even the great Beatles had to have one song per album that wasn’t as good as the others on the LP. That’s all we’re looking for here, so please vote; you can like all of the songs on this album and still vote!

With that said, the least liked song chosen – in a landslide, was “A Taste of Honey” with 52.4% of the votes. 40.3 percentage points behind this song was “Anna (Go to Him)” in second place with 12.1%.

To see the rest of the finishing order for this poll, click on: Beatle’s Weekly Poll – week 186. The top results from this poll will also show up on this page: Favorite/Least Favorite Beatle Songs per LP .

Well, that does it for this week’s poll post. Monday is a US holiday that most don’t seem to get off work from unless you work for the government. Even the schools around here are open, oh well, looks like just another work/school day for most! But thanks to all of you who voted in our polls!
