Going through customs has become such a gigantic pain in the butt! When I went down to Virginia a few years ago for a weekend of meeting RJ, seeing the GTs and hanging out with TM, I had to be at the airport at bloody 6:00 AM when my flight wasn't leaving before 9:00 AM.
It wasn't always this way, of course. In the mid-80s my sister and I decided to go to Boston for a weekend. Her passport had expired and she didn't have time to get a new one. When we got to customs, the agent said, "Your passport is expired." She said, "Yes," in the most innocent tone of voice she could manage. And he waved her through.
