Perhaps the heavy duty drugs they were taking at the time really fogged their heads up and the fact that they had no producer after ALO left had something to do with it.
Drugs (and ALO leaving) had nothing to do with it, as MJ has never lost his business smarts to drugs, other than maybe for a few hours at a time, and Keith didn't have his drug problems until the early '70s. The real problem was what they did there was a totally acceptable record business practice, and most bands (including the Beatles) left off their released singles from their albums. Very stupid, but that's how it was done, as the top heads of record labels in the '60s demanded it since in theory it would get fans to spend more money and buy the single separately, whereas if the single was on the album, fans would not buy it again as a single record. That was the only reason these 3 songs weren't released on the LPs, just like so many other great '60s singles never made it on official '60s studio albums. Today most bands have solved this '60s mistake and now add on the singles to those old albums, but the Stones and Beatles haven't done this yet and most of us fans are still waiting for them to do this.
