TM: I'm not saying football made Hernandez a thug or that it made all these guys do the things they did. I'm saying that just because they could excel at the game, throughout their lives they could do no wrong and were protected by people while on their way up. I believe they are enabled and coddled just because they could play ball. Their wrong doings are covered up. Their school grades enhanced. They are used to getting away with murder...sometimes literally. Can anyone say Ray Lewis?
As far as Goodell is concerned, he is not a warden, judge or jury. He, and commissioners of all sports teams, probably don't have expertise in handing down punishment for out of sport wrong doings. There are punishments for sports related, on the field "crimes". There are precedents which can be followed. This is a new generation that we are living in. I feel sorry for Goodell. Just because he hasn't figured out what to do yet doesn't mean he's incompetent. It's all brand new to him. He's not their dad. Also, there are contractual rules that he must follow. You know the way society is now... even if you are the one who "does the crime", you can sue someone who is trying to "punish" you if they go about "punishing" you!
