Andy Johns says basically the same thing in the Stones in Exile documentary - except you can hear the wonder in his voice describing the process of it, how they could grind away at the same song for almost literally days, with it still being nothing then suddenly SOMEthing happens. Charlie might suddenly pick up the tempo...Bill, who has been sitting half paying attention suddenly sits, then STANDS up, and BAM - a song starts forming.
The idea that Andy Johns is no tyro, that between being Glyn's younger brother, and his own work with bands like Zeppelin, makes the wonder in his voice after almost 40 years, very special.
It just points out what keeps all of us coming back - the idea that none of these guys are super duper genius players, but its the magic of the ensemble which has kept our interest all these years.
