RE: What Was The Reason...

Most of the tracks you are talking about - "Sleepy City', "We're Wastin' Time", etc; were demo tracks of early J/R compositions from very late 63. Hence the mentions of John McLaughlin, John Paul Jones,Jimmy Page, etc on ALO's 'liner notes' on the original sleeve. Outside of maybe Keith showing up occasionally, these tracks have no other Stones on them.

Ironically, a lot of Stones DID show up for demos which which somehow got credited as 'The Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestra' - most notably, "365 Rolling Stones (one for each day of the year) - which Andrew uses as the theme music for his Sirius/XM weekend radio show! http://youtu.be/wf7RUjUqO7U (the other one is the very similar "There Are But Five Rolling Stones"} The ad lib vocals on 365 are from...Brian!

those were done very early 1964

then there is the very bluesy "Oh How I Like to See Me on the B Side - http://youtu.be/_kGH5PYn3MU - which really IS a Stones track, as it is Mick on harp, Keith, Bill, Charlie and possibly Stu on piano!

And of course, Cleo Sylvester's To Know Him is to Love Him, with the Stones backing her up! http://youtu.be/0haSd0ZCMxM

The ONLY reason all those demos were put on METAMORPHOSIS, is because ABKCO wanted the publishing...

hope this helped!
