Gene Clark was the main songwriter for the Byrds when he was in the band (but of course he didn't write those 2 songs) and the lead singer. At first he was also the rhythm guitarist, then David Crosby took over that spot alone and Clark mainly just sang after that. Jim (later Roger) McGuinn of course formed the band and was the lead guitarist. But harmony vocals on "Mr. Tambourine Man" were sung by McGuinn, Crosby and Clark together and I believe the main lead was McGuinn. On "Turn! Turn! Turn!" all 3 of them sang the lead together. In later years, after Clark left the band, Chris Hillman, who early on only played bass, also started to sing lead and play mandolin and guitar when they went country.
