The Stones, in recent years, have had songs in commercials, too. She Said Yeah, YCAGWYW, She's A Rainbow come to mind and I'm sure there are more. I guess, back in the day, these young , rebellious groups such as the Stones and the Who { I hope I die before I get old sounded cool then. Ask them if they feel that way now lol} couldn't envision the kind of money that they could make by selling their music for commercial use. I'm sure back then it wasn't a lot of money, plus it was cooler and more fashionable to snub society and not "sell out".
Now, all those young rebellious guys are fathers, grandfathers and even great grandfathers! They could really set their kin up for life by selling their songs for commercial use. Plus, as mentioned earlier, it IS a great way to tap into a new generation.
