I think its smart. Music is a business. Why not market themselves and cash in?
One of the arguments is that this music is art, and you don't cheapen your art by making the art into some stupid commercial jingle. I recall the horror I felt in the '70s when the Beatles "Revolution" was use for a sneaker commercial. Yet as an old man and years later, today I like it a bit. Not that I like that they are selling out the song for money, but today it's the only way young kids will learn and get to know the old rock songs from years ago. I recall when I was a preteen they were doing that in the early '60s with songs from the '30s and '40s and the only reason I got to know some of those old songs, was because of the commercials they were used in. So in one way it is kinda cheapening the song, yet in another way it's exposing the song to a younger generation that otherwise might not ever know the songs.
