JJF/Satisfaction/The Who/Fabs/&VS

Week 787 of our Stones poll is here and this week’s question asks yet another VS question, which is:'Jumpin' Jack Flash' vs '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction', which Stones song do you like better? Gomper asked this question here last week in a thread he started and at that time I realized it would be a great question for our poll. These 2 songs were voted the 2 top songs a few weeks ago here when we asked for the most defining Stones song, and both are usually in most Stones fans top 10 list, if not top 5 list, of their favorite Stones songs (they run a very close 3 and 4 in our Ongoing poll question for favorite Stones song). So let’s put them up against each other here and see what we get.

To vote in this week’s Stones’ poll, just click here: Stones Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Stones poll we asked: ’Petrol Blues' vs 'Petrol Gang', which version of this song do you like better?. A major landslide of fan votes show once again that most Stones fans disagreed with their beloved band on a somewhat recent release, this time going against the official released version of this song. By how much of a landslide? Just click on this link: Stones Weekly Poll - week 786– poll results to find out. I’ll also add this result to the Stones VS Page under “songs”.

Now over to the Classic Rock Poll, where it’s week 429, and we’ll be running the usual 2 poll questions for the week. With the first question we will start a new series of questions that could go on forever if we like, that question is this: Who was the most underrated member of The Who? Every band out there seems to have at least one underappreciated member, or at least an underrated member. We asked this question a few years ago at the Stones poll and Bill Wyman was our pick. So let’s now ask this for other bands.

Now the Who is one of the few bands where the four original members were all well rated I would say, yet we will start out with them since they are the third favorite band of Stones fans, and we have a lot of Stones fans who vote in our Rock poll. If we were asking this question and only listing the original four, it would be interesting to see who would be picked, but we can’t do that since Kenny Jones was also an official member for several years after Keith Moon died, and all members must be voted on.

To vote in this week’s first rock poll list, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

Our VS Rock poll this week will ask this:'You Keep Me Hangin' On' (by The Supremes) vs 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' (by The Vanilla Fudge), which cover version of this song is best?. This song was written by Lamont Dozier and brothers Brian and Eddie Holland in 1966, and the Supremes excellent cover went all the way to #1 on the charts. Then in the next year, The Vanilla Fudge did a hard pounding rock cover of it (known as “Acid Rock” in those days) and the song went top 10 again, this time to number 6. Where on the Supremes version, the main guitar part, played by the Funk Brothers, originated from Morse code radio signals. The Vanilla Fudge;s take dropped that unusual sounding guitar for a wild organ played by lead singer Mark Stein. But it was drummer Carmine Appice who’s hard hitting drums helped to make the song’s feel sound so different.

So whose cover of the song do you like more? There will be links to both takes at the voting page so you can have a listen before you vote. To cast your vote in week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: What is the best Rock song about fake or phony people? The top 3 picks went to 4 songs: ‘Positively 4th Street’ by Bob Dylan (6%); ‘Gimme Some Truth’ by John Lennon (5.7%); ‘Eleanor Rigby’ by The Beatles (5.5%) and ‘God Save the Queen’ by The Sex Pistols (5.5%).

To see the full, final results in the voting, just click on: Classic Rock Poll week 428. The final Top 10 Songs are also listed at the Top Ten Lists, Page, 9.

In last week’s VS poll we asked this question : 'Hound Dog' (by Big Mama Thornton) vs 'Hound Dog' (cover by Elvis Presley), which version of this song is best? A very very close final result from this poll. To see which song came out on top, click on the following link: Classic Rock VS Poll week 428. You can also check out the final results at the Classic Rock’s site’s VS page.

Finally to the Beatles’ poll, where it’s week 182, and we ask the same kind of question we’re asking at the Rock poll: Who was the most underrated member of The Beatles? With the Beatles being the second favorite band of Stones fans, of course we will ask this one for them too.

All 4 Fabs will be listed, but my guess is this will be between George and Ringo for the most part. To vote in this poll, just click on: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll we asked: ‘Get Back‘(Single version) vs ‘Get Back’ (Let It Be version) vs ‘Get Back’ (Let It Be... Naked version), which version is best? The (Let It Be... Naked version only got 5 votes total, as this poll was between the 2 main takes of the song. To see which one came out on top, click on: Beatle’s Weekly Poll – week 181. The top results will also show on the: Beatles VS Poll Page at the domain’s Lennon Site.

I thank all of you who take part in the voting each week in our polls, especially with last week being a holiday week, glad nobody took off from voting, as our vote tallies weren’t down anything too bad, in fact, the Rock poll saw its highest vote count for this summer and overall it was just another normal polling week.
