GTIORR: I absolutely see your point and agree with some of the things you are saying. True... there are bigger fish to fry, especially in NY. The police could and should be taking down bigger criminals. However, a crime is a crime. I certainly don't think that guy deserved to die for his, and I don't think the police wanted to kill him either. They can't, however, let a perp dictate what he wants to do. The police are the law. They fear for their lives each day. They don't know if that guy was intending to do them harm. They have families that they want to go home to also. Its simple... the police tell you to do something, you do it! Whether you are right or wrong, you do it. That's what courts are for... to determine if you are guilty or not. He was obviously guilty of something.

Believe me, I dislike police as much as anyone. I could tell you stories all day! Once, when I was 17 yrs old, I was waiting to pick up my girlfriend at St Agnes HS in College Point, Queens. I was standing across the street from the school when a group of 16 or 17 yr old boys ran out of the school (it was an all girls school) and right past me. I didn't think anything of it until a police car pulled up in front of me and 2 cops got out and started yelling at me. They asked me where the rest of my friend were. They assumed I was one of the boys that was causing trouble in the all girls school. When I explained what I was doing there and that I had no relation to the other boys, they spun me around, cuffed me and threw me in the car. We drove around for half an hour looking for "my friends". I kept telling them that I didnt know the boys. They finally stopped the car, let me out on a backstreet somewhere in college point, uncuffed me and whacked me across the knees with a club before they left me on the street.

I have many more of these stories. Maybe another day. It was tough being a long haired, bandana wearing youngster in the '80s and 90's. So as you can see, i'm not pro cop, but I can't lump them all together. If you are doing something wrong, get arrested gracefully or pay the price. By the way... both cops in my instance were white.
