I agree with Keno. I think comparing different things is actually one of the ways human beings analyze things and that we all do it, whether consciously or not. But we don't like it when others compare two things we love.
That said, I think that Rolling Stone's "lists" are mostly crapola and that their only purpose is to sell more copies. This once-upon-a-time trendsetting magazine has become mostly irrelevant and stirring some shit seems to be the only way they can find nowadays to have people talk about them.

Start Me Up vs. Brown Sugar --- Brown Sugar, by a moonlight mile
Ruby Tuesday vs. Jig Saw Puzzle --- RT... I mean, really...!
Sympathy For The Devil vs. Can't You Hear Me Knocking --- SFTD
Almost Hear You Sigh vs. Out Of Tears --- No pick; 2 indifferent songs in my book
Heaven vs. Moonlight Mile --- Moonlight Mile
Emotional Rescue vs. Fingerprint File --- Fingerprint File
