I have often said that I don't really like 'rank ordering' Rolling Stones albums or songs (or any artists works for that matter). It somehow demeans the work. I find Rolling Stone Magazine's endless 'lists' of songs, albums, and instrumentalists to be tiresome! Comparing two great albums is comparing apples to oranges. How could you possibly make the case that The Beatles Abbey Road is 'better' than The White Album? What does 'better' mean? Can you say that Rachmoninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto is 'better' than Chopin's 1st? No! They are equally brilliant, but different works of art. It would be like comparing Salvador Dali's paintings to Picasso's. You just can't say one is superior to another.
But with that said... I do see how polls and attempts to rank order works do promote and inspire great discussions. And Keno's polls do that wonderfully well!
So here is my attempt at a 'poll' of sorts.
I hope you will all feel free to copy and paste this list, and put the song you choose between the two songs next to each line in capital letters.
It should be very interesting to see what people choose.
