Sing This All Together/40 Licks/Stay/Fabs/more

Week 784 of our Stones poll is here and we have a brand new question this week that asks this:'Sing This All Together' vs 'Sing This All Together (See What Happens)', which version of the song is better? Yep, back to the Stones version of the VS poll, where these lines of questions first started up by accident many years ago.

These 2 songs were both released in December of 1967 on Their Satanic Majesties Request. 'Sing This All Together' is the shorter of the 2, clocking in at 3:46 and features both John Lennon and Paul McCartney on backing vocals and percussion. 'Sing This All Together (See What Happens)' was mainly an experimental instrumental lasting well over 8 minutes, then at the end Jagger sings a bit. Both songs didn’t seem to be all that popular on the album, yet when I hear them today they both seem a lot better to my ears than they did in the past.

So which version of this song do you dig more? If it’s been awhile since you have heard either song or you just wish to compare them, there are links to both songs at the voting page, just remember, don’t judge the videos, since the non-YouTube link has a lot of photos to it and the YouTube one has just the album cover showing. So rate the songs only!

Okay, to vote in this week’s Stones’ poll, just click here: Stones Weekly Poll.

In the last week’s Stones poll we asked: Rate the artwork for the front cover of Forty Licks.

The final results show us another Stones’ album’s artwork that isn’t loved by most fans, but I guess it’s somewhat liked, with the top 3 picks being “6” at 21.7%, and “5” and “7” tied at 21.4% each..

You can see the full, final results of the voting by clicking on this link: Stones Weekly Poll - week 783 – poll results.

Over at the Classic Rock Poll it’s week 426, and we’ll be running the usual 2 poll questions for the week. Here is the first question: What is the best rock song that has a day of the week included in its title? (Part 2 of 3) Week 2 of this question lists songs from where we left off on Tuesday, thru Saturday.

To vote in this week’s first rock poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

Our VS Rock poll this week asks this:'Stay' (original by Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs) vs 'Stay' (cover by Jackson Browne), which version is best?. This song was written by Maurice Williams back in 1953 when he was just 15 years old and on a date with a young gal who had to be home by 10pm. Williams wrote most of the song from the conversation he was having with the girl that night, and in 1960 he recoded it with his doo-wop band, The Zodiacs. The song went all the way to #1 and to this day, at 1 minute 50 seconds in length, it’s the shortest single ever to reach the top of the American record charts, selling over 8 million copies in time!.... This song was covered by many bands, in 1964 the Four Seasons hit #16 with it, and a few years later the Hollies had a UK hit with it (at number eight). Then in 1977,Jackson Browne recorded it live with slightly different lyrics, and vocal samples from David Lindley and Rosemary Butler, and it became a top 20 hit and is the most remembered cover today of the song.

There is a major difference on how these 2 songs were sung, with the Jackson Browne cover only sounding a bit like the original when Lindley sings his part.

So, which version do you like the most? To vote in week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question, plus yes, just like the Stones poll this week, there are links to the songs at the voting page if you wish to compare the two before you vote.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: What is the best rock song that has a day of the week included in its title? (Part 1 of 3) Seven songs received enough votes to be voted on again in Part 3 of this question. They are: ‘Ruby Tuesday’ - The Rolling Stones (30.7%), ‘Monday Monday’ - The Mamas & the Papas (12.3%), ‘Pleasant Valley Sunday’ - The Monkees (12.1%), ‘Tuesday Afternoon’ - The Moody Blues (11.5%), ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’ - U2 (6.9%), ‘Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon’ – Queen (6.7%) and ‘Monday Morning’ - Fleetwood Mac (6.7%).

To see the full, final results in the voting, just click on: Classic Rock Poll week 425. The final Top 10 Songs after Part 3 is voted on, will be listed at the Top Ten Lists, Page, 9.

In last week’s VS poll we asked this question : 'Another Saturday Night' (original by Sam Cooke) vs 'Another Saturday Night' (cover by Cat Stevens), which version is best? The final results were somewhat close. To see which version came in first, click on the following link: Classic Rock Poll week 425. You can also check out the final results at the Classic Rock’s site’s VS page.

Now to the Beatles’ poll, it’s week 179, and this week we ask: When listening to the Beatles music, what do you prefer to play, their early '60s pop, or late '60s rock? A pretty simple question to see who prefers the early Beatle songs from the later day ones. There was a major difference in their songs during this relatively short period of time. Which do you prefer to play today? To vote, just click on: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll we asked: Had John Lennon lived, do you feel there would had been a Beatles reunion before George Harrison's death? Most Beatles fans clearly feel that yes, there would have been a reunion by now of the Fabs had John lived. In fact, we saw a landslide of fans feeling this way. To see the exact totals from the voting, click on: Beatle’s Weekly Poll – week 178.

Well that’s it for this week’s poll news - and summer too, at least for the kids here where I live. Yes, tonight is a school night for my grandson, as the first day of the new school year is tomorrow morning. It just doesn’t seem right going to school in August, I never did, but his school week is only 4 days, Monday thru Thursday, and to get the 3 day weekend to work, they got to start school several weeks early to make up for all the Fridays they miss. I don’t know, maybe the tradeoff is worth going back early.

Anyway, on Tuesday I’ll be back in the hospital again, but this time as an out patience, and hopefully they will finally bring to an end the pain I’ve been in for the last 10 weeks. The entire summer was a waste for me thanks to the surgery I had 2 months ago, as I couldn’t do anything or go anywhere, and hurting for so long would drive anybody crazy I guess. I know it did that to me, to a point anyway, so I’m hopeful something will be done to end this nightmare I’ve been in for too long. Yep, this should be another interesting week ahead for me.
