Why Would the Beach Boys say that ?

I was watching the promo of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame DVD's, and the there is a clip of one of the beach boys on stage that says something to the effect of

"We know Mick Jagger isn't here tonight because he's always been chickenshit to get on stage with us"....

I was surprised at hearing that....

Why would he say something like that...

Does anyone know?
