RE: 5 Stones albums in terms of production quality

I don't get too hooked on production either, at least not in terms of pure sound quality, dynamic range, etc.

For example, I can appreciate certain albums from the 50s and 60s where sonically they do not match up with stuff rom the 80s. But again, production is not entirely about pure sound quality.

To me, production involves how well the technology and equipment in ones possession is used. Placement of microphones, use of things to dampen sound, to mute one thing or emphasize another, making sure vocals or an instrument isn't buried in the mix, the mixing of the final product, packaging, artwork, etc, all that falls under production and that stuff to me is an art and worthy of recognition. In that respect, I have heard albums from 1960 that sound better than albums from the late 80s. When great artists are at work they out to have people organizing their efforts and talents to make the best possible use of them.

Sticky Fingers, in my view, does this incredibly well. Its a beautifully produced album from start to finish.

So, I do agree to an extent that production (and certainly in terms of sheer sonic depth and quality) is not the most important thing. But it us to be somewhat important and it makes a difference.
