You have to remember that things looked very bleak in England in those days. I was in London in 1979, 1980 and 1982 and even as a mere tourist, I could see that the economy was down in the dump. There really was "no future" for a lot of members of the upcoming generation. So I guess it was a natural reflex for them to dump on the people who, in their eyes, were firmly entrenched in safe, well-paying jobs (meaning the boomers) through the bands they loved (meaning the Beatles and the Stones).
