"may have" isn't the correct words to use since they flat out said it. Deep down, of course they didn't mean it, but that was the problems with the '70s UK punks, they were just full of shit, or at least, most of them were. With that said, the Clash had several songs I liked a lot, Last week I heard "London calling" on the radio, a song I hadn't heard in years, excellent song, yes, other than the insane and very stupid lyrics about "phony Beatlemania biting the dust". Stupid lyric, there was nothing phony about the Beatles or Beatlemania, only the punk movement was what was phony, and why it bit the dust.
