RE: A couple of comments on couples/My picks

Gene Simmons Dated Diana Ross???

I guess I should had noted one more condition for the couples to be listed in the Rock poll; they also had to have lived together, even if for just a short period of time (or unofficially, as I don't think that MJ and L'Wren Scott ever officially lived together), to be listed in the poll, and yes, Gene Simmons and Diana Ross didn't just date, they lived together for a short time.

Now that this couple's poll is running, and I see so many more votes than normal for it early on, I must say I guess it was a good question after all, even if deep down I half feel like a few of you about this kind of question. I'm the kind who normally doesn't care who is living with whom. But the question is more than that, asking which ones were interesting to watch live and or see work together, which makes the questions a lot more interesting than just who is your favorite, something I could care less about. But to the few who flat out don't care about famous couples, I understand, and perhaps for this poll only, where I hate and never have a "none of the above" option, since we learn nothing from that, in this case that might have worked, we would have learned something, like how many of us just don't care about Rock couples.

My picks: Exile in the Stones poll, an easy choice for me. DC is my least liked '60s Stones album.

Rock poll: John and Yoko, how can you not pick them 2? Like their work together or hate it, they set a different standard for couples working together, be it in music or non-music stuff... and boy did they pay the price for that early on with some Beatle fans hating Yoko; their UK drug arrests; and then the backlash from their anti-war efforts, with the stupid, backwards, US Pig Nixon government messing with them and trying to kick them out of the country. Hell, all they wanted was some peace!

VS poll: I feel bad for Frijid Pink in this poll since their cover of this song is excellent, and what a great acid guitar riff in there! But how do you not go with the Animals on this one? Their my pick and for the same 2 reasons I picked them against Dylan 2 weeks ago: Eric Burdon's great vocals, and Alan Price's great organ. This week so far it looks like most of you actually agree with me for once! Did you know that Price didn't stay in the band long - mainly because of this song? He was the only band member credited for the song's arrangement even though the entire band worked together on the song, but because they couldn't fit all of the band members names on the single's label, and went with his name first, he was the only one listed in the credits and the only one who was paid for that, and that pissed off the other guys in the group. I understand they are still pissed at him even today over that, although I'm glad they allowed him to play on that fine reunion LP they made in the mid '70s.

Fab poll: I'll go with "Norwegian Wood" over "Twist and Shout" if only by a hair, and only because I expect T&S to win. Perhaps John's vocals were better on the later, he did rip that song apart like nobody else ever did, and to think he was sick with a sore throat that day! George Martin left the song for last, knowing that John was in bad shape, and after he sang it he could not talk for 2 days afterwards. But they only took one take of that song and used what they had, and it became their only gold and hit record that was a cover.
