DC/EOMS/Rock Couples/HOTRS/Lennon

vs.

We enter week 768 at our Stones poll and we will continue with our long running battle of Stones’ album vs Stones album polls. It’s week 3 of looking at the 1965 release, December's Children (And Everybody's). So here's the new question: December's Children vs Exile On Main Street , which album do you like the best? Exile On Main Street is I believe the only Stones album that hasn’t missed a single one of the Stones VS poll verses series of questions that we have run, and we’ve run several over the last several years. But the reason to use Exile all the of the time is because it’s a perfect way to gage the other albums that it goes up against, and that’s the whole reason for these polls.

I don’t really have to tell you much about the double EOMS LP, so let’s get right to the vote… which album will you go with? To vote, click here: Stones Weekly Poll.

vs.

In last week’s Stones poll, we asked: December's Children vs Bridges To Babylon , which album do you like the best? Well, would DC finally end up winning one of these VS polls last week? To see if that was so, check out the final results from last week’s Stones poll, here: Stones Weekly Poll - week 767 – poll results. You can also check out the final results from this poll at the Stones VS List Page.

Let’s head over to the Classic Rock Poll, where it’s week 410, and as usual we will run the normal 2 poll questions. For our first question, a last minute substitute poll, as the poll I wanted to run about spring songs, wasn’t finished yet, so the new questions is: Which couple made for the most interesting Rock couple? I thought up this question last year, on the day after Lou Reed died. I was thinking of his widow, Laurie Anderson, whom he pretty much spend every minute with for the last 20 years or so of his life. That in turn made me think to myself, that she was his Yoko Ono, and how some women have a hold on some guys.

Now do notice how this question is worded, we aren’t holding a poll to see which couple was most popular, if you know me well enough, well I could care less about stuff like that. We are just asking here for which couple is or was the most interesting to hear about? You don’t have to even like a couple to vote for them in this poll.

I’m only listing rock couples who are both well-known because of the things they did together as couples. You aren’t going to see a couple like Charlie and Shirley Watts on the list, as the question isn’t asking for the most solid marriages in rock, as you don’t have to ask a poll question to get that answer. Plus where As Charlie and Shirley are well known to us Stones fans, most others have no clue who “Charlie and Shirley” are.

Normally when we have 60 poll choices like we have this week, I break up the poll into a few parts/weeks, but not with this one… I’ll find one week of asking this question fun, but 3 weeks of waiting for a final answer to this question would be too much, so we only got only this week to find out which couple is most interesting.

Sad to note that out of these 60 couples, only about 4 of them are still together today, and several of them saw death do them part. Also note for this poll’s list, that in all cases, the man is noted first (well, to be technical, in one case a boy was noted first instead). That is in no way meant as a sexist move on my part, I had to do it in one way or the other, and since in most cases, it’s the gal who goes first, well I always like to do things different than most, so in for this poll, the guy goes first, it’s as simple as that.

To make your pick and vote, just click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

For our second Rock Poll question, we have the usual VS poll, and this week’s VS question asks: 'House of the Rising Sun' (cover by The Animals) vs 'House of the Rising Sun' (cover by Frijid Pink), which version is best? 'House of the Rising Sun' is perhaps one of the oldest songs out there that has been covered in rock music. Nobody knows for sure how old it is or who wrote it, best guess is that it was written in the early 1800s, yet others claim it goes back to the 1500s and was at first was set in a Soho (UK) brothel.

The Animals cover today is looked at as the first ever folk-rock song. Released in 1964, it is perhaps their most remembered song, and it was their biggest hit, reaching number 1 in America and the UK, and in several other countries. too.

In 1970, “House of the Rising Sun” took an acid rock trip all the way to No. 7 on Billboard Hot 100 list in the US, to No. 4 in the UK , No. 3 in Canada, and to #1 in Germany, thanks to Frijid Pink (recorded by the band in just once take, since they had some time left in the studio one day), a Detroit band that had a twist of other Detroit bands in them like the MC5, The Stooges, and Alice Cooper.

The Animals cover is known for its heavy organ sound, whereas Frijid Pink’s version is remembered for its heavy acid guitar part.

To cast your vote in this week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s Rock poll, the first question asked was this: Of the following artists not in the Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame, who should be in there the most?

Comparing the results of this poll against the results from the one we ran 2 years ago, 125 more votes were cast this year, and Deep Purple once again took first place, this year by 0.7% more total votes than 2 years ago. I also voted for them too, and I just can’t figure out why this great band and isn’t in the Hall yet? You let in KISS but not Deep Purple? Somebody is doing some real bad drugs out there for sure!

Second place went to The Moody Blues, who moved up from 7th place last time around. Jethro Tull who finished second last time, was third this year, and T. Rex saw the biggest improvement in votes, landing in the top 10 at #7, while 2 years ago they were only at number 21.

I guess the other note to make about 2 years ago, was that Hall & Oates was one of only six artists listed who received no votes at all, yet this year they’re in the Hall, but clearly not due to any high fan support.

To check out where all of the others came in the voting, just click on the following link: Classic Rock Poll week 409. Or, to just view the Top 10 Songs only from the list, click on Top Ten Lists, Page, 7, note it’s not on the current Top 10 page 9, as I’m placing the updated info for this poll on the page it was first listed on 2 years ago. Also, if you wish to compare results from 2 years ago when we asked this question the first time, that poll’s results can be found here: Classic Rock Poll week 305

In last week’s VS poll we asked: 'Dandy' (original by The Kinks) vs 'Dandy' (cover by Herman's Hermits), which version is best? Well, I voted for the loser again, but does it really matter? Neither song is really a loser in the final results, just perhaps one is more underappreciated. Click here to view the final poll results: Classic Rock VS Poll week 409 . You can also check out the final results at the Classic Rock’s site’s VS page.

Now to our the Beatles’ weekly poll, where it’s week 163, and we will continue looking for the best sung Beatles song, by voting each week for the best one song sung by each Beatle, and then in the last week of voting we will put the top 4 songs chosen for all 4 Fabs up against each other and see who’s singing is picked out of that bunch. So this week’s question is in the last week asking about John’s songs: Of the Beatles songs that John sings lead on, which one do you feel he sang the best? (Part 4 of 4) 25 songs made the final list that we will pick from this week. To make your final pick, just click on: Beatles Weekly Poll. I must say, we did pick some great songs for this week’s list!

In last week’s Beatles poll we asked: Of the Beatles songs that John sings lead on, which one do you feel he sang the best? (Part 3 of 4) 7 of the songs from Part 3 lived on to see Part 4, and they are: Twist and Shout (16.1%); Strawberry Fields Forever (13.3%); You've Got to Hide Your Love Away (12.7%); Ticket to Ride (12.5%); Revolution (11.9%); Yer Blues (11.7%); and Sexy Sadie (8.9%).

To see the full, final results, click on: Beatle’s Weekly Poll – week 162.

I thank all of you who took the time to vote in the polls during the last week, and for voting again in this week’s new polls, too!
