RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Which Stones LP's

I mean, if you hate the sound, then there's not much that can change that, but I give the song far more credit than rehashing pastiche.

Firstly, that drum beat you get, along with that defining electric riff that Keith strums help modernize an old genre. I also think the end of the song really sells it: Keith's lyrics turn into begging, and that, in tandem with the mourning horns and weeping guitar, reveal that this is far from a cocky Frank Sinatra tune. It's similar to the false bravado in a number of Stones songs, like "Tumbling Dice," and this musical as well as emotional retooling of a well-worn genre of music is what has always elevated their songwriting. For me, it's a smart revision of a preexisting set of tropes. Compare that to the single "Anybody Seen My Baby," Mick's baby, which goes through the motions of any similar song of that time, with the band's guitar work being the only distinguishing feature. Listen to it now, and you have a superficial time capsule. Not horrible, but forgettable.
