What you saw very much sounds like "Free Bird: The Movie".
The unenviable task of playing right after that FB finale fell not on the Stones, but on 10 CC. They were the act scheduled to go on right before the Stones. I wonder how it fell to be sandwiched between that awesome Skynyrd performance and the Stones, who were the reason most of the audience was there (and with the whole thing running very late, people were probably getting impatient.)
