This story is as disturbing as it gets, and it doesn't surprise me that it took place in Detroit, where you have some of the worst back prejudice against white people.
The driver of the car was white, the boy was black, something you didn't note, but this was a racial thing, just not in the way it is normally plays out, where the black person gets fucked just for being black. In this case it was the reverse.
According to those who witnessed the accident, the driver did absolutely nothing wrong, the child caused the accident, and the driver did what he was suppose to do, he got out and tried to assist the child. That was when these prejudice men took over and beat the shit out of him simply because he was white. You can blame and thank injustices that still take place today for this - like what happened down in Florida in the Martin case, where the white man (who was actually only half white) got away with killing a totally innocent black teen. You can also blame all the years of other white prejudice against blacks for this, too. What happens in inner cities where blacks are still hurting, is they become the ones in time who become prejudice against whites, and then this happens.
Could this happen in other US cities? Yes, but my guess is only in eastern or midwestern US cities. What's the solution? Get rid of racism, which in most of the US isn't going to happen for years to come. There is very little of this in Colorado where I live, since there are no black, and no white only neighborhoods. Nobody is segregated here by color, nobody who is white cares if a black family moves in next-door, that has been the way it has been in Colorado since at least when I moved here in the late 1970s. If everybody would just get along and live together this hatred among the races would go away. Back 100 years ago, at least in the greater NYC area, all people were segregated. You had neighborhoods that not only were broken up into white and black, but Italian-American, Irish-American, German-American, etc, and if an Italian-American kid ended up alone in a Irish-American neighborhood, he got beat up simply because of who he was - or wasn't. Once these hoods started to disappear, the problem started to go away. But when I left NY in the late '70s, there were still black only neighborhoods, and that problem was still there. Since I haven't lived there since that time, I have no clue how much of a problem this is back there today, but my guess is as long as black only hoods exist, so will this hatred among the races, and it clearly still is taking place in Detroit.
You can bet the next time a white guy hits a black person in that hood, even if he's 100% innocent, he will leave the area and call the police instead of staying there to get beat to death.... Bottom line is: It don't matter if you're black or white, if prejudice prevails, you're going to get hurt, end the prejudice - and the hate will go away.
