RE: Several replies all in one/My picks

Garth Hudson in the first rock poll (he won't win, but he deserves a few votes IMO).

Really, other than Robbie Robertson, who mainly just stuck to string instruments and mainly the guitar at that (and why he's not listed in the poll), the rest of the Band should get a bunch of votes I would think. If this poll was for the most versatile band instead of person, they would get my vote.

Would have voted for Stevie Winwood if I'd seen his name, totally versatile.

He's listed. Did you want me to change your vote for you since you missed him?

Did she [Janis Joplin] even play an instrument?

Of course she did, I would not have listed her otherwise. Janis played several different kinds of instruments. All the way back in high school, she was known as "the girl with the autoharp", because she brought it along with her and played it everywhere she went. But she also played guitar, keyboards, drums and many different wind instruments, including recorder. But as I briefly noted in the post, Janis along with the other 2 women listed, rarely played any instruments on her albums, as she let her band members do that for her. She did occasionally play percussion and some flute while in Big Brother and the Holding Company. Janis was actually a very good guitar player, too, and the acoustic guitar that you can hear on "Me and Bobby Mcgee" was her playing alone when she first recorded the song, and because it sounded so good, they left it on the song when the band's music was added in.

Guess I should note since I brought them up here, for the other 2 women, Annie Lennox and Cyndi Lauper, like Janis, they played several instruments. With Lennox, being that David Stewart was her bandmate, and he is as versatile as one can be, she rarely played any instruments on their albums (I believe she only played drums and the recorder on a few songs), but I guess she did play several other instruments on solo LPs.... Lauper would be the most versatile of the 3, yet again, she had out several albums where she only sang and wrote the songs. But she also did play several different instruments on other LPs she released, including often playing guitar and the dulcimer on several songs.

I wonder how well (or not) Prince will do in this poll. This being a classic rock site, he may not get all that many votes even though he's very versatile.

Yeah, he is right up there with the best when it comes to this, but he's only at best a borderline classic rocker. Same deal with Stevie Wonder, the dude can play many different instruments, and on some of his LPs he's mainly the only person playing.

My picks:

OOOH in the Stones poll, no comparison IMO, as Jagger noted about DC, it really wasn't a true album at all, it contained just leftover stuff from OOOH, and only put together and released by their management to cash in on the Xmas holiday.

Rock poll: Although there are several different names who I could vote for, how could I not vote for BJ? Not because he was a Stone, but because unlike the rest listed, his versatilely actually helped to change what we got to hear (and what instruments were played) in rock music.

VS Poll: All 3 takes of this song are excellent, but I got to go with the Byrds cover since it really made the song sound different in how they played it.

Fabs poll: "Norwegian Wood", this one just might be the one I go with overall when we get to Part 4.
